Empire State of Impact: Meet Attia Taylor

Attia Taylor is the Community Manager for the SecondMuse Cities team supporting all Futureworks programming on and off line. Her role focuses on strengthening the community experience and communicating across programs to create a seamless experience for participants, partners, and sponsors. Attia is passionate about building and cultivating communities through journalism, creativity, storytelling, and research. Prior to joining SecondMuse, Attia worked in women’s health advocacy with a focus on technology and research to create sustainable health solutions for women.

In this month’s team spotlight post, we invite you to get to know Attia.


How have you applied your past experiences to the work you do today at SecondMuse?

I’m incredibly passionate about advocacy work and have worked in that space for many years. I’m funneling a lot of that passion and experiences into the work I’m doing at SecondMuse to ensure that I’m making a difference in everything I do. SecondMuse provides a great canvas for that by introducing me to new and exciting opportunities. I love that I’m able to build a community within the 2M family and in the projects we work on daily.

What is one activity you’re passionate about outside of work, or a “fun fact” pivotal to who you are?

I’m the editor-in-chief of Womanly Magazine. I work alongside 20+ women to bring updated preventive health information to marginalized women in NYC, Philly, and Baltimore. We combine our passion to help women with our love of art by working with artists of many disciplines. Our mission is to bring health information to communities in a new and refreshing way to increase readability and comprehension.

If your life were a book or documentary, what would the title be and why?

If my life were a documentary, it would be called “No Sleep ‘til Brooklyn”. I have a fairly crazy life story (ask me about it later) and have worked really hard to create a balanced and happy life for myself. I currently live in Brooklyn and I love it! It has always been a dream of mine to live in NYC and I’m still working really hard to accomplish my goals in this crazy city.

Matt Scott is the Manager of Storytelling and Engagement at the innovation agency SecondMuse. He produces creative promotional campaigns for social impact projects alongside partners including USAID, Nike, NASA, the World Bank, and the White House. Prior to joining SecondMuse, Matt worked with digital agency Social Driver to craft and execute social-first campaigns, including advocacy campaigns for Honda, Harvard, and Digital Learning Day. His efforts have successfully encouraged the FCC to modernize internet in schools by $1.5B, engaged 25,000+ participants in a global weekend hackathon, and reached more than 100 million people on social media.
